Sunset Couple Photos at the Mcdowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona | Emilie & Alex
I followed Emilie on Instagram shortly after I moved to Arizona, and I’ve wanted to shoot with her ever since! After some talking, we decided to meet for a sunset couple photos session with her partner, Alex at Tom’s Thumb Trailhead at the Mcdowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale, Arizona.
I’ve hiked here many times and have done an individual portrait shoot with my friend, Jess, in early May. But I was so excited to shoot a couple at this location! You can show up to the same place more than once and get a completely different outcome depending on the time of day, the weather, and of course, the models.
From start to finish, Emilie and Alex a joy to work with! They were completely open to my ideas and had amazing chemistry together on and off the camera. They’re both into climbing and are lovers of the outdoors as much as I am. Moving forward, I’d love to continue to work with couples who lean on the adventurous side and are totally down to explore (and hike a little bit) to get to beautiful locations.
For the first half-hour, we were shooting in direct sunlight, which is something I stray from. But the glowing yellow grass with the blue, open skies in the background really drew me in, and I’m happy it did!
As the sun went down, we took advantage of some golden backlit light.
After the sunset, we were treated to some beautiful cotton candy hues in the sky! These had to be my favorite from the entire evening. From the start to the end of the shoot, the lighting, setting, and Alex & Emilie were perfect!
